Description

In March 2010, China donated a stock of de-mining equipment worth 50 million rupees to Sri Lanka to help de-mining activities in the Northern region. Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yang Xiuping handed over 50 de-mining detectors and 50 de-mining protective equipment kits to Sri Lanka Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka. The donation is expected to accelerate ongoing army de-mining operations in the north as part of resettlement, reconstruction, and rehabilitation efforts taking place under the 'Uthuru Wasanthaya' (Northern Spring) program.
