Project narrative

On October 1st, 2012, the Agriculture Ministries of Nepal and China have signed a five-point agreement in a bid to speed up farm yard commercialization in Nepal. China has agreed to develop Nepal's agriculture in its mountainous regions in applying modern technology to livestock farming, fisheries and agriculture. China will help promote animal husbandry to boost production of animal products such as milk, meat and wool, as well as support Nepal in expanding fish farming which is still not widely commercialized despite having huge potentiality. Additionally, China's aid aims to promote horticulture and the cultivation of cereal crops and other farm activities in hilly areas. Nepali officials will also seek Chinese cooperation for strengthening Nepal's capacity in food quality testing, production of livestock vaccines, increasing mechanization in farming and expanding hybrid seeds production technology by building necessary infrastructure. The agreement was signed during the third bilateral Nepal-China Agriculture Assistance meeting held in Kathmandu.
