During a four-day visit to China, independence leader Jose Alexandre Gusmao met with China Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and China Vice President Hu Jintao. In recognition of Timor Leste's independence, the Chinese government pledges to donate 50 million RMB to Timor Leste to assist the country in its reconstruction.
