Project narrative

On November 27, 2001, the Chinese Government announced that it was ready to provide assistance to Afghan refugees in Iran through working with the Iranian government. As of December 2001, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue announced that it had been providing relief goods and materials to Afghan refugees in Iran, and would continue to do so. In November 2001, the Chinese Government sent 39 trucks of relief supplies to Afghan refugees in Iran. Also, an official report on 'China's Relationship with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)' notes that the Chinese Government had donated relief goods and materials to Afghan refugees in Iran (worth RMB 5 million).
