Description
The Chinese Government has been sending medical teams to Sudan every two years since April 1971. Shaanxi Province has been responsible for sending the teams. On 7 February 2013, Chinese Ambassador to Sudan, Luo Xiaoguang, and Sudan’s Minister of Health, Issam Ding, signed a protocol agreement dispatching the 31st medical team to Sudan. The 42-member team was stationed at the Abu Ushar Friendship Hospital, Omdurman Friendship Hospital, and Ad-Damazin Friendship Hospital, all of which were previously built with funding from the Chinese Government. The team completed its term of service between August 2013 and 2015. During a 2013 interview, the captain of the 31st medical team stated that the cumulative number of patients seen by all 31 Chinese medical teams in Sudan was 7.78 million. 250,000 of these patients were hospitalized and 160,000 patients received surgery.
