Project narrative

On May 17, 2001, the Chinese government agreed to send a 17th Medical Team to Tanzania. The 25-person medical team includes translators, maintenance, and logistic technical experts, among others. The team worked in four hospitals: Mhibili Medical Center, Dodoma, Msoma, and Tabora Provincial Hospital. The medical team will assist Tanzanian medical staff with medical tasks, provide specialized training, and exchange medical experience. Their mission began in August 2001 and ended in August 2003. Under the agreement, Tanzania is responsible for providing the medical team with living expenses; China and Tanzania share joint responsibility for providing salaries, transportation, and medical expenses. Shandong Province was responsible for selecting and preparing the team. On August 15th, 2003, the Tanzanian Ministry of Health held a banquet for the team and awarded all team members with honorary certificates, thanking the medical team for 35 years of assistance. China has been sending medical teams to Tanzania every two years since 1968.
