Description

In May 1, 2008, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Senator Rehmatullah Kakar declared that Pakistan Housing Authority (PHA) would construct 37,000 new residential housing units for low-income federal employees from grade 1 to 22, that would be given to dwellers on ownership rights. China would provide financial help for the construction of these residential units. This had been pledged during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador. The Federal Minister also assured that PHA would construct 1 million houses for Government employees annually with the cooperation of China. He further said that in the construction department a Chinese investment committee has already been established and other China based construction companies are showing their interest to construct the mega projects of residential units.

Additional details

It was reported that in November 2008 Kakar signed a MoU for a housing project to be implemented under the Prime Minister's Housing scheme. Unclear whether this MoU refers to this particular project.
