Description

In 2006, the Chinese government donated funds worth Rs. 214 million for upgrading the Tevta Light Engineering Service Centre at Gujranwala. The grant will install Hi-Tech Machinery, and provide facilities for Material Testing, advanced Welding & Fabrication, Hi-Frequency Heat Treatment, Machining of Dies & Moulds, Induction & Vacuum Hardening and Plasma Cutting machinery. The agreement was signed by Mohsin Syed, the Chairman of Tevta, and Zhou Zhencheng, the Economic & Commercial Counsellor of China. First Secretary of Chinese Embassy in Pakistan Yan Jianming, Zonal Manager (North) Group Capt E Muhammad Rashid, Manager Service Centers Akhtar Abbas Bharwana and Manager Public Relations Mustafa Kamal Pasha were also present. The project has not been completed within the planned duration (i.e. 2003-04 to 2005-06), due to the delayed documentation between the Government of the Punjab and China. Works started on 1 July 2007 and ended on 30 June 2009.

Additional details

According to the Punjab government, the total budget of the project was Rs. 165.880 Million in which Government of Punjab shared Rs.16.187 Millions and the remaining was provided by the Peoples Republic of China. This would put the transaction amount at 149,693,000 Rupees. There is also a discrepancy in the dates, with some sources listing 2006 and others listing 2008.
