Description
On January 13, 2006, the Chinese Government and the Government of Suriname signed a $500,000 grant agreement for the construction of a public housing complex in Tout Lui Faut. The complex consisted of 200 low-income houses: 10 one-bedroom houses, 60 two-bedroom houses, and 130 three-bedroom houses. Suriname companies designed the complex, but Chinese companies were contracted for labor and construction. On December 24, 2007, a contract for the implementation of the low-cost housing project was signed between the Ministry of Affairs and Housing of Suriname and China Shandong Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation Group Co., Ltd. Construction was delayed and did not begin until late 2008. On November 18, 2008, the groundbreaking ceremony was held.
