Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In late July 2010, Pakistan experienced the worst floods in 80 years due to heavy monsoon rains and strong winds. On August 1, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that they would donate a batch of humanitarian aid worth 10 million RMB to Pakistan for flood relief efforts. This was the first donation of four. The other three are captured in Record ID#38551, #36809, and #36801. According to the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, this first aid package included 30 tons of medicines and water purifiers, 1,000 tents, and 50 power generators, The materials were gathered by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) within 48 hours after the government's pledge and deployed three Il-76 carriers to transport the materials. The aircraft departed for Pakistan from Shijiazhuang and Nanjing on August 4 and were officially handed over to the Pakistani side on the same day. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Financial Tracking Service captures this first batch of donations in flow ID #77496.
