Project narrative

The China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum Ministerial Conference 2006 was held in Fiji in April 2006. Beijing provided Fiji with 1.17 million USD for the conference. The Fiji Times reported the China-sponsored conference is the first of its kind in the Pacific region. The conference is also expected to look at ways to boost bilateral cooperation with Pacific island nations on travel, environmental protection, education, fisheries, public health and legal affairs. It was attended by the eight developing Pacific IslandsForum members that recognize China.
