Description
In March 2005, the Chinese Government and the Government of Indonesia signed a grant agreement for the Earthquake Observation and Measurement and Tsunami Early-Warning System Project. China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) was the source of funding and it reportedly committed RMB 27 million in total. The purpose of the project was to build an earthquake and tsunami early-warning system. The system consisted of 10 seismograph broadband and accelerometers and a national tsunami warning center. It involved station construction, equipment installation, technical services, spare parts maintenance, processing facilities, training, and expertise for a limited time to the Indonesian government. China Earthquake Administration was responsible for project implementation, which began in 2006 and ended in March 2009. The project was officially handed over to the Indonesian government on April 12, 2010.
