Project narrative

In 2005, China sent goods and materials to a tsunami-affected area in Indonesia, which were loaded into 535 standard containers. The shipment sailed from Tianjin on 7 March 2005. The supplies weigh approximately 7,000 tons and are worth about 30 million Chinese Yuan. The supplies were specifically requested by the Indonesian government to help build 60 schools. Each of the light-structure schools will be equipped with 15 classrooms, an independent shower, lighting and sanitary fittings and a bathroom. In August 2006, the Chinese government handed over the management of 28 of 60 school buildings to the local communities concerned.
