Project narrative

On December 6, 2008, the University of Sao Paolo State University and Hubei built the first Confucius Institute in Sao Paolo. In July 2008, President Hu Jintao met with Brazilian President Lula to discuss the establishment of the institute. Vice Minister of Chinese Ministry of Education, Tian Shulan, Brazil and Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Committee Mr Sun Rongmao Chinese consul general in Sao Paulo, party secretary of Hubei University Rayong root, Shu Jianping Cultural Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Brazil, Sao Paulo State University Makeni, the Confucius Institute Friendly Committee counsel Xiluonuoya (WTO arbitrators) and more than 300 local community celebrities attended the opening ceremony. This institute will serve as a platform for more informed exchange between China and Brazil. As of 2008, China had set up 305 Confucius Institutes in 78 countries. As of 2013, the institute was still growing and developing as a cultural education center.
