A Confucius Institute was established at San Francisco University of Quito on 27 December 2010. On 11 November 2011, the Confucius Institute at the San Francisco University of Quito held its first anniversary celebration in Quito. This location was the first Confucius Institute in Ecuador. Nearly 800 students have enrolled to learn Chinese.
