Project narrative

In December 2009, the Chinese government agreed to grant 22 million kina to Papua New Guinea for the Mt. Hagen Rice Project (captured in #69380). This project will be disbursed in five phases. On January 10, 2013, China's Ministry of Commerce signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) to grant 10 million RMB (K3.3 million) for the Second Phase of the Mt. Hagen Rice Project (also the Mt. Hagen Agriculture Technical Cooperation Project) in Papua New Guinea. The team is being led by Guan Shihuai. The project will provide technical advice and teach modern farming techniques for dry rice to local rice farmers at the Hagen Agricultural College in the Western Highlands Province. The project hopes to diversify local food crop production. The last expenditure was budegtted in 2015.
