Project narrative

In December 2009, the Chinese government agreed to grant 22 million kina to Papua New Guinea for the Mt. Hagen Rice Project (captured in #69380). This project will be disbursed in five phases. In 2014, China agreed to disburse a grant of $338,328.21 for the Third Phase of the Mt. Hagen Agriculture Technical Cooperation Project in Papua New Guinea. The project will provide technical advice and teach modern farming techniques for dry rice to local rice farmers at the Hagen Agricultural College in the Western Highlands Province. The project hopes to diversify local food crop production. According to the Lowy Institute Pacific Aid Map, the financing disbursed in 2014 was worth $338,328.21.
