Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

Fiji has been sending members of its civil service to China’s Executive Leadership Academy of Pudong (CELAP), China's premier executive leadership training academy in Shanghai, China, to undergo short-term training. This is at the request of the Fijian Government. In 2013, it requested training for 300 officials. This request was granted. Fijian officials will be sent over in batches of 25 for the next five years. On September 13, 2013, the Chinese Government invited 20 Fijian government officials to take part in leadership training in China. The training is provided by China’s Executive Leadership Academy of Pudong (CELAP) in Shanghai, China. The training began on September 16 and ended on September 29, 2013. The second round of training for 25 officials began on November 6, 2013. As of January 22, 2014, 109 top and senior-level civil servants had undergone leadership training at CELAP. There were various government departments, statutory bodies, and non-government organizations that had received various types of training in China that includes six officers who were still pursuing long-term studies. The training is meant to help with issues pertaining to strategy, public policy implementation, succession planning, projects implementation, and service delivery. 19 more officials were sent on November 18, 2014, for the same training (see Record ID#39416).
