Project narrative

Fiji has been sending members of its civil service to China’s Executive Leadership Academy of Pudong (CELAP), China's premier executive leadership training academy in Shanghai, China, to undergo short-term training. This is at the request of the Fijian Government. In 2013, it requested training for 300 officials. This request was granted. Fijian officials will be sent over in batches of 25 for the next five years. On November 18, 2014, the Chinese Government invited 19 Fijian government officials to take part in leadership training in China. This project has been completed. Over the course of the next two years, the Fiji Public Service Commission is looking at sending another 250 senior officials for leadership training in China and to learn firsthand the skills of strategic thinking, planning and coordination, project implementation, and effective public service delivery. Previously, on September 13, 2013, the Chinese Government invited 20 Fijian government officials to take part in leadership training in China. The second round of training for 25 officials began on November 6, 2013. As of January 22, 2014, 109 top and senior-level civil servants were trained (see Record ID#39406).
