Project narrative

On June 6, 2014, China signed an agreement committing a grant of FJD 1.42 million (around USD 800,000) to Fiji for the 2014 election. The agreement was signed by Huang Yong, Chinese ambassador to Fiji and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Fiji's acting prime minister, attorney- general, and minister responsible for elections. Chinese Ambassador Huang Yong said, "the Chinese Government is willing to provide necessary assistance for the election." A total of FJD 1,449,770 was contributed to a grant fund set up for the 2014 election. This grant is separate from the police assistance given by China which included equipment for the elections (see Record ID#64719).
