Project narrative

On August 8, 2011, The Dai Ailian Foundation, officially launched on July 26, was formed to honour Dai Ailian, a great-grandchild of the Chinese immigrant born in Couva, Trinidad. During the ceremony, two young dancers, Juan-Pablo Alba Dennis of the Metamorphosis Dance Company and Seon Nurse of the North West Laventille Cultural Movement, were awarded scholarships. The two are the first beneficiaries of Dance Scholarships to the Beijing Dance Academy, courtesy the Dai Ailian Foundation. In September 2011, the two students went to Beijing Dance Academy and successfully graduated on August 3, 2012. On August 23rd, 2013, Ambassador Huang Xingyuan met with Adrian Issac, President of the organization and Symara Williams, 2013 scholarship awardee. As of 2020 the foundation is still operational and continues to offer scholarships.
