Description

On May 6, 2008, the Chinese Government announced its intent to double the number of scholarships for Costa Rican students to study abroad in China to 40. The scholarships are intended to build on agriculture cooperation and hydraulic techniques. Implementation began in 2009. In an interview on July 31, 2010, Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica, Li Changhua, stated that this figure would increase to 50 scholarships per year, in addition to dozens of short-term training courses in technology, journalism, administrative management, and other fields. This update is linked to Project ID #40099. 40 scholarships are currently offered each year through la Oficina de Becas de la Cancillería and 10 through la Universidad de Costa Rica. Scholarship durations vary from 1 to 7 years and can be used for any degree level (Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate).
