Project narrative
On August 16, 2007, China’s Ministry of Commerce and Jordan's Ministry of Public Works signed a $15,000,000 grant agreement for the Low Income Family Housing Project. The purpose of this project was to increase living standards for low-income Jordanian families. It involved the construction of 314 housing units for low-income families in Zarqa, Balqa’a and Mafraq governorates. Guangdong Xinguang International Group (GDFC) was the contractor responsible for implementation. The project was implemented in two phases. Phase 1 involved the construction of 70 high-quality housing units for low-income families in Al-Mafraq Governorate, 32 high-quality housing units for low-income families in Mafraq's Nayfah District, 20 high-quality housing units for low-income families in in Salihiya District, and 18 high-quality housing units for low-income families in Rabaa Al Sarhan District. Phase 1 construction began on October 30, 2009 and ended on October 30, 2010. Phase 2 was officially completed and handed over to the Jordanian authorities on January 17, 2011. The Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Yue Xiaoyong and Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jafar Hassan attended the handover ceremony.
