Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In September 2001, China provided its famine-struck ally, North Korea, with 200,000 tons of food and 30,000 tons of diesel fuel during a summit between their leaders. The donation was promised by China's President Jiang Zemin, who ended his three-day visit to North Korea on September 5, 2001. The North's official Korean Central News Agency said in a detailed report on Jiang's visit that the Chinese aid was aimed at helping its country overcome damage caused by the recent long drought.
