Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On May 28, 2007, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) signed an agreement with Tel Aviv University (TAU) to establish Israel's first Confucius Institute at TAU. The Chinese partner university was Renmin University of China (RUC). Chinese courses began in November 2007. The Confucius Institute at TAU offers courses on Chinese language and culture to the Israeli public, as well as for elementary, middle, and high school students. On September 13, 2012, Chinese Ambassador to Israel, Gao Yangping, the Director General of Confucius Institute Headquarters, Xu Lun, and the Vice President of TAU signed an agreement (Chinese agreement name: 《中国孔子学院总部与特拉维夫大学关于继续合作建设特拉维夫大学孔子学院的协议》) committing continued cooperation to build the Confucius Institute at TAU. As of July 23, 2020, a separate Confucius Institute facility had not been financed or constructed on the campus of TAU
