Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In August 2006, the Department of Tāoga Niue was established as the key agency responsible for the promotion, preservation, and the overall coordination of all aspects that represent Tāoga Niue. The Chinese government provided funding for the Tāoga Niue government building. It is unclear how much was spent on the construction. As of April 2011, the project was under the "still in preparation" phase..

Staff comments

The previous coder mentioned that the "Tāoga Niue building" can also refer to the Tāoga Niue Museum, which was opened in October 2018 as a replacement of the Huanaki Cultural Centre, which was destroyed by a cyclone in 2004. However, the establishment year of the Department of Tāoga Niue matches the year when Niue received the fund from China for the Tāoga Niue building. Therefore, the "Tāoga Niue building" is coded as "Tāoga Niue government building" for this project.
