On April 25, 2006, as a part of a series of ceremonies and memorials to remember the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, Ukrainian Economy Minister Arseniy Yatsenyukniy and Chinese Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine Gao Yuishen signed an intergovernmental agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, the Chinese Government agreed to provide an RMB 10 million grant (1.2 million USD) to address the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident.
