Description

On December 12, 2012, Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) approved a proposal to establish the Confucius Institute at SS. Cyril and Methodius University in the city of Skopje. The main responsibility of the Confucius Institute would be to provide undergraduate classes, different levels of Chinese language training, and undertake promotional activities related to Chinese culture. The official founding date of the Confucius Institute is April 17, 2013. However, the opening ceremony for Confucius Institute was not held until September 3, 2013. Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, Chinese Ambassador to Macedonia Cui Zhiwei, Macedonian Minister of Education and Science Spiro Ristovski were all present at the ceremony, along with approximately 200 other guests. The Confucius Institute is located on the first floor of the “St. Clement of Ohrid” Library (Национална и универзитетска библиотека „Св. Климент Охридски“) in Skopje, to the left of the main entrance and the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics from Chengdu, PRC. is the implementor.

Additional details

Several ETCAs signed in 2014 and 2015 refer to a project to fund the construction of a Confucius Institute building. However, it does not appear that this project ever commenced.
