Full Description

Project narrative

The Confucius Institute at Chiang Mai University was set up by Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) and Chiang Mai University (CMU). The project officially launched on July 20, 2005, at the first World Chinese Conference in Beijing. The CI was officially inaugurated on December 18, 2006. Chiang Mai is the second-largest city in Thailand and the economic and cultural center of northern Thailand. It has a high concentration of people with Chinese-Thai ancestry, making Chinese a much-spoken language in the region. Chinese is taught in many primary schools, high schools, and universities. Chang Mai University is recognized as one of the best universities in northern Thailand. The Confucius Institute has an office, a reading room, and an established library of over 3200 volumes of books and videos. The institute provides learners with experienced Chinese teachers, classic and authoritative textbooks, and a genuine Chinese learning environment, with access to electronic resources. It also offers information regarding academic study in China and organizes academic study tours to China.
