Project narrative

On November 28, 2008, the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University (METU) was inaugurated as the first-ever active Confucius Institute in Turkey. METU Confucius Institute operates under the partnership of Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN), and Xiamen University, with the support of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ankara. The Institute is managed by one Chinese and one Turkish co-director, and the Executive Board consists of four professors from METU and the two co-directors. METU Confucius Institute employs native-speaking teachers of Chinese as well as part-time student assistants. The monetary value of the financial commitment that supported this project is unknown.
