Description

On February 22, 2011, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Hanban Confucius Institute, the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), and Fiji's University of the South Pacific (USP) ("The University of the South Pacific and the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications Sign Agreements"). According to the MoU, a Confucius Institute would be established at USP’s Laucala Campus. In line with the agreement, the Confucius Institute was to be provided $150,000 and teaching materials. On September 6, 2012, the inauguration ceremony of the Confucius Institute at USP was held. 4,086 students and staff had taken up the opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture at this Confucius Institute by 2017.
