Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On June 8, 2006, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the European University of Brittany (Université européenne de Bretagne) signed an agreement to establish the Confucius Institute in Brittany. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide teaching materials, an annual fund, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local Bank of China account or other approved bank account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. On January 29, 2008, the European University of Brittany and the Shandong University, the cooperating partner, signed a supplementary implementation agreement. The Shandong University agreed to provide one or two visiting scholars annually, donate teaching materials, and receive student study groups. The Confucius Institute was officially established on October 26, 2008. The Confucius Institute hosted the 1st French National Chinese Teacher Training Program in July 2010. A branch in Brest (布列塔尼孔子学院布雷斯特分院) was established in 2010.
