Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On December 11, 2013, the University of Pecs and Hebei United University signed a memorandum of understanding to initiate the establishment of the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of Pecs. On August 27, 2014, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and University of Pecs signed an agreement to formally establish the institute. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide 3,000 volumes of teaching materials, a USD 150,000 start-up fund, and numbers of Chinese instructors. Hanban will also provide annual funding based on the institute's needs. The funds are dispersed through a local Bank of China account or other approved bank account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. The Confucius Institute was officially established on March 27, 2015. The institute is the seventh in the world to focus on traditional medicine and the first in Hungary to focus on such activity. On October 9, 2018, the University of Pecs and the North China University of Science and Technology -- which replaced Hebei United University as the implementing partner -- signed a supplementary implementation agreement. North China University of Science and Technology agreed to provide one or two visiting scholars annually, support the institute with additional funding, donate teaching materials, and receive student study groups.
