Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On November 8, 2010, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria (La Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) signed an agreement to establish a Confucius Classroom. The Confucius Classroom was elevated to be Confucius Institute at the University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria in March 2012. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide teaching materials, an annual fund, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local Bank of China account or other approved bank account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. In 2011, University of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria and Changchun Normal University (长春师范大学), the cooperating partner, signed a supplementary implementation agreement. Changchun Normal University agreed to provide one or two visiting scholars annually, donate teaching materials, and receive student study groups. The Confucius Institute was officially established on April 19, 2013. The Confucius Institute was the sixth Confucius Institute to be established in Spain. The second five-year agreement was renewed in January 2021.
