Full Description

Project narrative

On April 27, 2015, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Hull signed an agreement to establish the Confucius Institute at the University of Hull. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide volumes of teaching materials, an unspecified start-up fund, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local Bank of China account or other approved bank account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. On January 29, 2016, a supplemental implementation agreement was signed with the Tianjin Normal University, the partnering Chinese university. Under the agreement, Tianjin Normal University agreed to provide some degree of financing to assist with the institute. The agreement also uniquely includes sections on anti-corruption obligations. On January 29, 2016, the institute officially opened, promoting cooperation with Tianjin Normal University in the fields of applied chemistry, applied physics, urban and rural planning, and water resources. The Confucius Institute at the University of Hull oversaw the following Confucius Classroom: - ID#91052: Howden School
