Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On November 5, 2013, the Confucius Institute Headquarters of China (Hanban) and Heriot-Watt University of Scotland signed an agreement to establish the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication at Heriot-Watt University. Within the agreement, Hanban agreed to provide a $150,000 USD grant as a start-up fund, 3,000 volumes of teaching materials, and a number of Chinese instructors. An additional agreement between Heriot-Watt University and Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (TUFE), the cooperating institution, was signed on an unspecified later date. TUFE agreed to provide instructors, host summer camp student study groups, and giving learning materials to the institute. On June 10, 2014, the institute was officially opened at Heriot-Watt University. The institute is the only business-focused Confucius Institute in Scotland.
