Project narrative
On May 25th, 2011, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Southampton agreed to establish the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton. On October 31st, 2011, the institute was officially opened with an inauguration ceremony at the University of Southampton. In attendance were officials from the University of Southampton, the Chinese Embassy, and Xiamen University, the cooperation institution. The institute is the 15th Confucius Institute in the UK. As of December 2020, the institute has had more than 24,500 students and more than 200 cultural activities of various types. The institute also oversees 3 Confucius Classrooms. The Confucius Institute at the Ulster University oversaw the following 4 Confucius Classrooms: - ID#90778: Bohunt School Worthing - ID#90923: Bohunt School Liphook - ID#91050: Steiner Academy Frome - ID#91051: Mansbridge Primary School
