Project narrative
On March 12, 2007, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Wales, Lampeter (UWL) signed an agreement to establish the first Confucius Institute in Wales. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide volumes of teaching materials, annual funds, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local special account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. Later, when the University of Wales, Lampeter merged with Trinity University College in 2010 to form the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), the Confucius Institute was transferred to UWTSD's control. The cooperating institution is Beijing Union University, which signed an implementation agreement with UWTSD on December 9th, 2013.
