Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 28, 2008, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Central Lancashire signed an agreement to establish the Confucius Institute at the University of Central Lancashire. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide volumes of teaching materials, annual funds, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local special account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. The institute was launched in partnership with Beijing International Studies University. On September 26, 2008, an inauguration ceremony was held to mark the opening of the institute. As of 2018, the institute has provided more than 350 scholarships to study in China and taught Chinese language to more than 1,200 students.
