Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On September 27, 2007, the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute was held at the University of Nottingham to commemorate the official establishment of The Nottingham Confucius Institute. On May 7, 2015, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Nottingham to formalize the Confucius Institute. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide volumes of teaching materials, an annual fund, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local Bank of China or other approved bank account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. On May 4, 2017, a supplementary implementation agreement was signed by the University of Nottingham and Fudan University, the cooperating partner. Fudan University agreed to provide one or two visiting scholars annually, donate teaching materials, and receive student study groups. In September 2015, the Nottingham Confucius Institute Teacher Training centre was developed to provide professional development opportunities to Mandarin language teaching professionals to work across the UK and Europe. On October 8, 2015, the institute also launched the Confucius Classroom at the Alderman White School, both located at the Alderman White School and Bramcote College. In April 2016, the institute became the first and only Confucius Institute to establish a branch in mainland China with Nottingham Confucius Institute's Ningbo Branch. The institute also provides various language teaching and scholarship programs to its students. The institute was awarded the Model Confucius Institute Status in 2015, providing the institute with additional funding from Hanban. This flow is tracked separately in Record ID#90058. The Nottingham Confucius Institute oversaw the following Confucius Classroom: - ID#90508: Alderman White School
