Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On August 10, 2012, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Leeds signed an agreement to establish the Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds. As part of the agreement, Hanban is obligated to provide 3,000 volumes of teaching materials, a $150,000 USD start-up fund, and numbers of Chinese instructors. The funds are dispersed through a local Bank of China account or other approved bank account created by the institute. The agreement has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. On November 28, 2012, an unveiling ceremony was held for the Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds. At the ceremony, a cooperation agreement was signed between the University of Leeds and the University of International Business and Economics, the partnering Chinese University. Like other Confucius Institutes, this project is financed by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). This institute is the third business institute in Europe. The goal of the Business Confucius Institue is to promote Chinese language and culture with a business focus, helping UK companies and organizations to understand and communicate with Chinese customers more effectively. The Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds oversaw the following 2 Confucius Classrooms: - ID#90916: Harrogate Grammar School - ID#91095: Leeds College of Art
