Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

According to the Ministry of Finance and National Planning of Tonga, in 2008, China financed the construction of the Ministry of Justice complexes in Tongatapu and Vava'u. An interview with Cabinet minister Clive Edwards also indicated that the building was built by China. However, further information about the project is unknown. When asked about Chinese aid projects in Tonga, Cabinet minister Clive Edwards chose his words carefully: "Some of the buildings they've put up", he told me, "are a disappointment". When the interviewer asked him about his own office in the Ministry of Justice, Edwards laughed.
