On 31 March 2006, China Eximbank and the Government of Sudan signed a $34.1 million USD loan agreement for the Dongola Water Supply Project. The loan terms are as follows: 4% interest rate, 10-year maturity, 3-year grace period, and a 3% insurance premium. According to a document titled "African Engagements: Africa Negotiating an Emerging Multipolar World," $10.2 million USD was disbursed in 2007, $17 million USD in 2008, and $6.8 million USD in 2009. This project involved the provision of potable water to the city of Dongola. The Chinese contractor responsible for project implementation is unclear. The exact start and end dates are unknown. Also on 31 March 2006, Chinese and Sudanese officials signed a $26.5 million USD loan agreement for the Matama-Abu Hamed-El Daba Water Supply Project (See: Project ID#47054).
