Description
In 2010, the Chinese Government reportedly agreed to provide a grant worth 751,879,699.25 CFA to the Government of Senegal for the drilling of two boreholes in Thiès region and Diourbel region. The purpose of this project was to expand access to drinking water to those regions. China Henan International Cooperation Group (CHICO) was the contractor responsible for implementation. Construction began in October 2008. The project completion ceremony took place on January 17, 2012. According to the Government of Senegal’s External Financing Management Platform (la Plateforme de Gestion des Financements Extérieurs du Sénégal, or PGFE), the Chinese Government had disbursed 360,000,000 CFA in support of this project as of December 31, 2012.

. The French project title is Deux Forages Pour L'Accès A L'Eau Potable. Some sources suggest that CHICO may have ultimately implemented this project in Thiès region but not in Diourbel region.
