Description

In 2008, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce provided a $2.9 million USD grant to the Government of Sudan for the construction of the Kiir Maryardit Women Hospital. On 5 July 2019, China added dormitories to the same hospital (see Project ID#53331). China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company (CJIC) was the implementing contract. Works began on 31 March 2012. The project passed acceptance on 10 October 2013. This 3,700 square meter hospital is located in Rumbek. Rumbek was originally located in Sudan but it became part of South Sudan after gaining independence in 2011. Therefore, on 10 December 2013, the Kiir Maryardit Women Hospital was handed over to the South Sudanese Ministry of Health. It was officially opened and operational in July 2014.

Additional details

The Chinese project title is 援南苏丹伦拜克医院项目 or 南苏丹伦拜克医院项目. Today, this hospital is located in South Sudan. Because the the funds were committed in 2008 (before South Sudan declared independence in 2011), the recipient country is listed as Sudan.
