Project narrative

In March 2016, China donated relief aid worth 50 million RMB to Fiji following the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Winston. China announced a total of eight flights with relief supplies to the island, with the first plane arriving on March 17, 2016. A total of 500 tonnes of relief material were donated, consisting of 6,000 tents with blankets and pillows, 135,000 first aid kits, 120 portable generators, 10,000 flashlights, and 45,000 bottles of water purification tablets. The tents were cataloged at the Fiji Procurement Office (FPO) and again at the Nadovu warehouse. Warehouse records noted 3606 and 530 tents were received in two shipments on March 21, 2016 (Report of the Auditor General...). The report also noted the delivery of 78 food bags. According to the report, there was some discrepancy between the FPO and warehouse records. This donation is in addition to a $1 million USD grant donation from China on March 5, 2016 (see Record ID#49141).
