Description
On November 13, 2013, a joint venture (JV) of China Textile Industrial Corporation for Foreign Economic and Technical Corporation (CTEXIC), China Machinery TDI International Co Ltd (TDI) and China Machinery Industry Construction Group Inc. (SINOCONST) was appointed to design, build and finance the Waste Water Infrastructure for Greater Hambantota Project. The project involves the construction of a wastewater treatment disposable system in Hambantota, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. The Waste Water Infrastructure for Greater Hambantota Project has ten components: construction of 9,000 sewerage connections; construction of a 12,000m3/day treatment plant; construction of a 142km collection network; construction of storage tanks; construction of pumping stations; construction of culvert pipes; construction of transport lines; construction of a water distribution system; construction of a waste recycling unit; and laying of pipeline. In 2014, China Development Bank pledged to provide a $75 million export buyer's credit for the project. However, there is no clear evidence that this pledge ever resulted in an actual loan agreement.
