Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2011, the Chinese Government sent 18 Chinese language assistants to New Zealand to help qualified teachers at 35 schools, 23 of which are in Auckland. The goal is for the number of Mandarin learners in New Zealand to increase to 50,000 total by the end of 2011. Under the New Zealand-China Free Trade Agreement, China pays the travel and living expenses of the assistants while New Zealand covers their insurance. This agreement also caps the total number of assistants allowed in the country at once at 150.
