Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On September 14, 2015, the Chinese Government and the Government of Mauritania signed an RMB 200 million grant agreement, which supported the Nouakchott Olympic Stadium Renovation Project. Then, in November 29, 2016, an implementation agreement was signed between the two governments. The goal of the project was to renovate the original stadium built by China in 1983 and to increase its capacity from 10,000 seats to 25,000 seats. Shanghai Construction Group was the contractor responsible for implementation. Construction began on July 15, 2017 and the project reached completion on November 27, 2018. The stadium was officially handed over to the local authorities on April 10, 2019. The funding for this project came from an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), which is captured via Record ID#56855.
