Project narrative

On January 17th, 2015, Secretary General of the Higher Education and Scientific Research Ministry, Hani Dmour, and President of China's University of Geosciences, Wang Yanxin, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a Jordanian-Chinese university in Jordan. The planned university will comprise of 3 faculties offering 15 majors. The university will also house two centers specializing in research, language teaching, and other diploma programs. The university is intended to foster cultural exchange and equip Jordanian students with an education for the modern business market, such as knowledge of the Chinese language. The implementation would be undertaken by China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). According to the International Education College: China University of Geosciences, on September 9th, 2015, China and Jordan signed "the framework agreement" for the new university. While the project was scheduled for completion by 2017, plans for implementation stalled. As of 2017, no plans for project construction, financing, or a prospective timeline had been announced. Jordan's Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and China's Cultural Counselor to Jordan discussed plans for the university on November 22nd, 2017, the talks however did not lead to decisions on project implementation. It's likely the project is on hold until funding comes in. According to Al Rai, a Jordanian media source, the Jordanian Government approved the university's placement in Al Jizah District, Amman. The university is slotted to have an area of 1,000 dunams, 500 dunams for the univeristy itself and 500 dunams for a scientific incubator.
